If you’ve ever asked ChatGPT to “sound more like me” and it didn’t - this is for you.
Most people skip the setup.
But if you want AI to write content that feels like your brand, you need to treat it like a team member.
And just like onboarding a VA, you have to train it to understand your tone, values, audience, and purpose.
That’s where persona prompts come in - and when done right, they change everything.
🤔 Why Create a Persona at All?
Think of an AI persona as your content twin. It helps AI:
-
Write in your voice (not generic copy)
-
Understand who your audience is and what they care about
-
Prioritise the goals behind your content - not just fill space
-
Give you reuse-ready results faster (less tweaking needed)
With a strong persona prompt, ChatGPT becomes your social media sidekick - one that gets it right from the start.
💬 The AI Prompt: “Build My Brand Persona”
Here’s the full persona prompt I use when setting up content workflows for myself and my clients:
“You are now my dedicated AI content assistant.
I want you to understand and remember my brand’s personality, audience, tone, and content goals.
Brand voice: [describe your tone - friendly, witty, professional, honest, calm, bold, etc.]
Audience: [describe your target - small biz owners, mums, creative freelancers, etc.]
Niche: [what your business offers - e.g. web design, skincare, coaching]
What I care about: [insert core values - e.g. clarity, consistency, results, empowerment]
I want to sound like: [mention tone inspirations or real examples]
When writing for me, always:
– Use conversational, natural-sounding language
– Avoid sounding robotic or overly formal
– Prioritise clarity, confidence, and value
– Align with my audience’s current stage (they’re likely [beginners/advanced/dabbling])
When ready, summarise this persona and confirm you understand. I’ll reuse this setup in future prompts.”
💡 Bonus tip: Save your final persona summary and add it to the beginning of future prompts - so AI always knows who it’s writing as.
✅ Why This Works
Most “bad” AI outputs come from bad inputs.
This persona prompt sets the foundation for everything:
-
Captions feel on-brand
-
Reels hooks sound like you
-
Long-form posts reflect your audience’s actual needs
-
It shortens the editing process massively
You wouldn’t hand a blank notebook to a new team member. Don’t do it to your AI either.
🔧 Tool of the Day
ChatGPT Custom Instructions - Custom Instructions let you set a default persona inside ChatGPT. Copy your brand setup into the “How would you like ChatGPT to respond?” box - and it’ll remember your style in every chat.
