How I Use Google Docs to Plan a Month of Content

You don’t need a fancy scheduler, 12-tab Notion setup, or colour-coded content calendar to get organised.

Plan an entire month of Instagram content using one free tool: Google Docs.

It’s simple, fast, and easy to update - and perfect if you’re not a spreadsheet person.

Here’s exactly how I use it (and how you can steal the system).

✅ Step 1: Create a Simple Table

At the top of the doc, I add a 4-column table:

  • Date

  • Content Type (Reel, Carousel, Story, etc.)

  • Topic / Hook

  • CTA (What I want the reader to do)

You can copy/paste this setup across months or campaigns.

✅ Step 2: Brain Dump 10–15 Post Ideas

Before getting caught up in “what’s trending,” I ask:

  • What have clients been asking lately?

  • What tips did I repeat in DMs this week?

  • What’s working well right now?

I list every idea - good, bad, or half-formed. This becomes my content pool for the month.

✅ Step 3: Plug the Ideas into the Table

Then I space them out across 3–4 posts a week.
I try to mix:

  • 1 educational tip

  • 1 behind-the-scenes or personal story

  • 1 promotional or service-based post

  • 1 engagement post (poll, question, etc.)

Now I’ve got balance - not burnout.

✅ Step 4: Add Your Visuals + Captions

Below the table, I paste links to my Canva graphics or rough caption drafts.

Sometimes I’ll write in full - other times I just bullet the key points.
Google Docs makes it easy to tweak on the go, share with a VA or designer, or copy/paste into Instagram later.

✅ Step 5: Keep It Flexible

I don’t lock myself in. If a trend pops up or something big happens in my industry? I can swap days around or insert new posts without breaking my flow.

This method keeps content strategic - but not stiff.
